Saint Margaret Mercy physician expects a third
tour of duty in another year
MUNSTER—For the moment, Dara Anita Josiah-Howze, MD, is back
on duty in Outpatient Behavioral Medicine in Munster after serving
her second tour of duty overseas. Dr. Josiah-Howze is part of Saint
Margaret Mercy's Medical Staff, in the department of Psychiatry.
Dr. Josiah-Howze left for Iraq on Dec. 28, 2004. She served in
Baghdad, Iraq with the 55th Med. Co. (DSD). She returned to the
United States on April 25 and resumed her practice at Outpatient
Behavioral Health in Munster on Tuesday, June 7.
Her first tour of duty began on March 5, 2003, where she served
in Bagram, Afghanistan. Her assignment was with the 452nd CSH.
Dr. Josiah-Howze expected the second tour of duty; she was put
on alert three months after her return from Afghanistan. Because
there is a shortage of psychiatrists in the armed forces, she expects
to be deployed once again in about a year. She does not regret
her decision, and is grateful for the opportunity to serve her
country.
