Hammond is First Hoosier City to be Named
“Indiana Healthy Community” by the Wellness Council
of Indiana
Saint Margaret Mercy Hosts Awards Ceremony
HAMMOND – The Wellness Council of Indiana presented the “Indiana
Healthy Community Award” today to Mayor Thomas M. McDermott,
Jr., and the City of Hammond during an awards breakfast hosted
by Saint Margaret Mercy in Hammond, Ind. The City of Hammond
is the first Hoosier city to be designated an “Indiana
Healthy Community” by the Wellness Council of Indiana.
The Wellness Council conferred the “Three Star” community
award as a result of 15 Hammond employers achieving a minimum
of 11 different standards for worksite wellness.
In addition, individual “Indiana Business Wellness Certification” awards
were presented to Hammond businesses for establishing certified
worksite wellness programs. These businesses account for 20 percent
of the workforce in Hammond, making the city eligible for the
award based upon wellness standards established by the Wellness
Council. The organizations and their level of certification are
