- Open-heart surgery performed at our Hammond and Dyer campuses. The choice is yours.
- Board-certified cardiologists and cardiovascular surgeons with teaching appointments at highly respected Chicago medical schools. The same physicians serve in both the Hammond and Dyer.
- Dedicated quality assurance/utilization review programs and a mortality rate below the national average.
- Cardiac patient care coordinators dedicated to individualized case management. These case managers closely monitor each patient's care from pre-hospital contact through discharge and follow-up.
- Cardiac/arrhythmia clinics that serve as physician offices for outpatient visits and follow-up care.

Non-invasive cardiovascular units Our non-invasive cardiovascular units are fully staffed by registered cardiovascular technologists and certified technicians. Services available 24 hours by physician order include:
* Fetal Echocardiography is available at our Hammond Campus. Prior to its introduction, families traveled to Chicago, Ill., or Indianapolis, Ind. Dr. Bettina Francesca Cuneo, perinatal cardiologist on staff, works with echocardiographers and obstetricians to improve the identification of congenital heart disease for the enhancement of postnatal outcome.

Cardiac catheterization units Our cardiac cath labs are the best in the area. The labs use filmless recording and archival systems for storing images on computer networks. Cardiologists and surgeons are able to access patient information from any location within the hospital, even during surgery.
Cardiovascular surgeons say this state-of-the-art, filmless archival system allows immediate and full consultation between surgeons and cardiologists, thus facilitating patient care decisions. Additionally, it improves access to catheterization studies and improves patient care.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Services Rehabilitation is an integral part of a patient’s extended recovery program. At Saint Margaret Mercy, the cardiac rehabilitation is tailor-made to fit each patient’s unique needs and physical capabilities. The program includes counseling for stress management, smoking cessation, weight control, diet and exercise. We also provide thorough patient education on a wealth of topics. These services are available at our Hammond and Dyer campuses.
